The president of the United Auto Workers (UAW) announced that the union has rejected Stellantis's wage hike offer. Stellantis had proposed a 21 percent wage increase with an immediate 10 percent boost upon approval, but the UAW deemed it insufficient. UAW President Shawn Fain stated that they are demanding a 40 percent pay increase and criticized corporate leaders for their absence from the bargaining table.
Three U.S. auto plants are currently on strike as negotiations between the union and major automakers like Ford, Stellantis, and General Motors have failed to reach an agreement. The workers' demands include higher wages, cost-of-living raises, an end to wage tiers, reduced working hours with maintained pay, and improved retirement benefits.
