Simon 5183 : Short selling means you don't have any stocks in your hands. You must first borrow the stock at a high price with a brokerage firm and then buy it back to the brokerage firm. As for ordinary stock trading, there are “intraday trading” restrictions. If you cross trade more than 3 times on the same day, then the brokerage firm will freeze your account. You'd better call the brokers' customer service!

Dash12 : On the sell page it should say at the bottom how many shares u can sell and how many u can sell short if it’s not letting u sell ur shares I’m not sure why there’s a help center that’s been pretty helpful every time I needed them
KnoDout : Are you trying to sell more shares than the qty that you currently have. Are any orders pending that haven’t been filled? If so, then that may be the cause. (Let’s say I have 50 shares, and want to sell 50shares at x, i place an order. If I place another order at different price without cancelling the pending sell order, the software is going to take it as you’re trying to sell shares, you don’t have in your portfolio[since it’s in a pending sale])

Biden2024 : Like what has already been said, you are getting that error message because you’re trying to submit a sell order for shares you do not have. It should tell you how many shares you have available to sell; just don’t go over that number
