Top 10 EV makers Q2 2023: Tesla first, BYD second

$BYD COMPANY(01211.HK)$ $Tesla(TSLA.US)$ Based on TrendForce data, BYD uses PHEV (Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) to push up the sales figure. Tesla produces only BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle). Some reports use the term NEV (New Energy Vehicle), which is rather confusing, is a mixture of PHEV and BEV. In a separate report, PHEV is not considered pure EV hence using BEV is a better comparison. You can read more in the post made recently:

TS2 reported:
In terms of sales, Tesla delivered 466,140 vehicles in Q2, surpassing estimates and achieving notable growth. BYD, on the other hand, sold a record-breaking 262,161 EVs in July and aims to sell at least three million vehicles in 2023. While Tesla leads globally in BEV sales, BYD is the top automaker in China. Tesla’s price cuts have affected BYD’s sales, but the company is introducing new and refreshed models with lower prices to regain momentum.
Electrek reported:
Over 2.15 million EVs were sold during the second quarter alone, representing nearly 40% growth year-over-year (YOY). Automakers and startups alike continue fighting for market share as EV production ramps up. Tesla easily surpassed expectations, delivering 466,000 EVs in the second quarter of 2023. The record quarter was enough to maintain its leadership over the global EV market. Meanwhile, China’s largest EV maker, BYD, continues closing the gap in pure EV sales. The automaker sold over 703,500 new energy vehicles in the second quarter, including plug-in hybrids. Passenger EV sales reached over 352,000, up 95% YOY, according to data from CnEVPost.

  • bullrider_21 : The fact that you keep saying that BYD uses PHEVs to push up the sales figure shows that you are biased against BYD and is a Tesla bull. PHEVs are not pure EVs but they are still EVs. Tesla only got itself to blame for not being able to produce more because they don't make PHEVs.

  • ZnWCOP bullrider_21: Thanks for contributing "comment".

  • bullrider_21 : Let's make this clear. New energy vehicles (NEV) refer to clean vehicles. Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles = PHEVs. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles = HFCVs. Battery electric vehicles = BEVs.
    NEVs = BEVs + PHEVs + HFCVs
    For BYD, HFCVs = 0,
    So NEVs = BEVs + PHEVs.
    For Tesla, PHEVs = HFCVs = 0,
    So NEVs = BEVs.
    But Tesla is just making 1 type, it just calls them EVs.
    The correct term is NEVs.

  • ZnWCOP : Here is the article why PHEV is not considered pure EV. We can also said someone who kept posting negative reports about Tesla daily is bias against Tesla.

  • ZnWCOP : Labelling others with names and create tension will not change the content of the article shared here. It will only reflect badly on someone who can't accept opposing view. Others will read further in the sources of information given here and compare.
