Thoughts on Powell’s speech
Powell is delivering this speech at 10:05pm Singapore time.
Most of us will probably be out partying since it’s a Friday night 🤪
Personally, I don’t think there will be a strong dovish or hawkish signal from Powell during his speech. He will probably say the usual stuff like the Fed is data dependent, inflation is falling but caution on re-acceleration / it’s stickiness, higher and longer interest rate environment, something to the effect. Nothing new.
I would be surprised if he gives a very specific guidance on the next rate hike.
Don’t forget, we still have the next CPI figure, unemployment numbers, retail sales data coming up before Sep’s FOMC meeting.
