The European Union has issued a sky-high $1.8 billion fine against Apple.
On Monday, the European Commission announced a €1.8 billion fine against Apple for abusing its monopoly to restrict music streaming competitors, including Spotify. The fine, which was issued, began with a complaint from Swedish music streaming giant Spotify 2019.Spotify claimed that Apple had a monopoly on competition in the streaming music market due to the company's forced increase in the price of its subscription service as a result of Apple's AppStore 30% draw.
At the same time, the European Commission also ordered Apple to stop blocking developers from recommending cheaper paid options outside the AppStore to users.
