Singapore shares open lower on Monday
Singapore stocks opened lower on Monday (Aug 14) amid a mixed performance in global markets.
$FTSE Singapore Straits Time Index(.STI.SG$ was down 40.81 points or 1.2 per cent to 3,253.47 as at 9.01 am. Across the broader market, losers outnumbered gainers 95 to 63 after 53.4 million securities worth S$55.29 million changed hands.
The most actively traded counter by volume was $Seatrium(S51.SG$ , which rose 0.7 per cent or S$0.001 to S$0.136 with 8.1 million shares traded.
Other heavily traded securities included $Addvalue Tech - watch list(A31.SG$ , which remained flat at S$0.013, as well as $Genting Sing(G13.SG$ , which dipped 1.1 per cent or S$0.01 to S$0.945.
US stocks ended mixed on Friday, following the release of data that showed US wholesale prices rose more than expected in July on a surge in services costs, despite the overall inflation figure remaining muted.
$Dow Jones Industrial Average(.DJI.US$ edged up 0.3 percent to close at 35,281.40, while the broad-based $S&P 500 Index(.SPX.US$ dipped 0.1 percent to 4,464.05. The tech-rich $Nasdaq Composite Index(.IXIC.US$ saw the largest daily decline, slipping 0.6 percent to end the week at 13,644.85.
