SIA must keep up be the best!
$SIA(C6L.SG$ This incident occurred about 15 years ago. I was in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
I had completed a business meeting and was sitting at leisure in the hotel lounge for the time to take a taxi to the airport. There was plenty of time.
About 3 hours prior to departure, I called a taxi. To my horror, I found that I had mistaken the departure time, which was stated as 19:00 (say). I mistook it for 9 pm when it was 7 pm.
I told the taxi driver to drive quickly to the airport. He did his best, but the airport was quite far from the city. I arrived at the check in counter several minutes after it was closed. The counter staff could not check me in.
I went to the Singapore Airlines office to arrange my next flight.
The station manager knew that my flight had not taken off. He telephoned the operations staff to hold the plane. He issued me a boarding pass and guided me through the immigration and customs checkpoints all the way to the boarding gate.
I was able to board the plane.
Otherwise, I might have to wait several days for the next flight as there was no daily flight between Singapore and Jedfah.
On my return, I wrote to Singapore Airlines to express my appreciation for the excellent and exceptional service rendered by the station manager.
