PDD's Temu Launches Overseas Online Shopping Intermediary Business in South Korea

In February 2024, Temu, the cross-border e-commerce platform of PDD, established a branch in South Korea. However, it opted to initiate only overseas online shopping intermediary services there, as reported by Yonhap News Agency.

Temu has not stationed permanent staff in South Korea nor conducted recruitment directly. Instead, it operates through publicity agencies. Unlike Alibaba's AliExpress, Temu does not intend to enter the South Korean market directly.

Despite this approach, Temu's user base in South Korea saw a significant increase, rising from 5.806 million in February to 8.296 million in March, according to a survey. In terms of e-commerce platform app rankings by user numbers in South Korea last month, Coupang $Coupang(CPNG.US)$ , AliExpress $BABA-SW(09988.HK)$ , and Temu $PDD Holdings(PDD.US)$ were in the top positions.
