The partnership between Anthropic and Palantir was reportedly used to capture Venezuela's Maduro regime
According to The Wall Street Journal, the U.S. Department of Defense utilized the existing partnership between Anthropic ( ANTHRO) and enterprise software company Palantir Technologies (PLTR) during the arrest of former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.
Sources familiar with the matter stated that Anthropic's ( ANTHRO ) AI tool 'Claude' was used in this mission, including a bombing operation conducted earlier this year in Caracas, Venezuela. Palantir (PLTRThe tools are frequently used by the Department of Defense and federal law enforcement agencies, sources say.
According to WSJ, Amazon (AMZN) and Alphabet (GOOG) )subsidiary's Google-backed Anthropic (ANTHRO ) is reportedly the first AI model development company used in a classified operation conducted by the Department of Defense.
However, Anthropic ( ANTHRO )’s usage guidelines explicitly prohibit the use of Claude for operations involving violence, weapons development, or surveillance.
“We cannot comment on whether Claude or other AI models were used in specific operations, whether they involve classified information or not,” an Anthropic spokesperson told The Wall Street Journal.
“Your use of Claude, whether in the private sector or government institutions, must comply with our usage policies that outline how Claude should be implemented. We work closely with our partners to ensure compliance.”
The Department of Defense declined to comment. This report comes as U.S.law enforcementA dramatic operation was carried out before dawn, capturing President Maduro and his wife, and they were taken to New York in JanuaryThe announcement was made a few weeks after prosecuting them for crimes such as drug terrorism.
