Nvidia attracted the heaviest trading in borrowed shares that were sold short Thursday. $Tesla (TSLA.US)$, $Disney (DIS.US)$, $Pfizer (PFE.US)$ and $Brookfield (BN.US)$ also saw higher short volume, while $Palantir (PLTR.US)$'s eased.
Trading in shorted $NVIDIA (NVDA.US)$ shares rose amid intensifying debate over a potential bubble in the artificial intelligence space that has become the money-making machine for the world's largest publicly traded company.
Nvidia's short volume rose to 17.84 million shares, the most of all the companies with a market capital of more than $5 billion tracked by moomoo. The company's advanced AI chips account for the biggest spending by hyperscalers building out their infrastructure.

$Palantir (PLTR.US)$ CEO Alex Karp warned that some investments pouring in for a large swath of the AI market may not create enough value to justify the cost, Yahoo Finance reported yesterday. He said the  consumer facing market for AI is "very weak and dissipating."
The company that supplies AI software has also been a target of short sellers, but their trading activities eased Thursday as the stock worsened slump to about 17%. Short volume dipped to 4.81 million shares, from 6.08 million a day earlier.

Karp has took another swipe at his company's critics, including analysts who have a sell rating on the stock, accusing them of dissuading retail investors from benefiting from the stock's more than 2,500% rally since the end of 2022.
Meanwhile, $Tesla (TSLA.US)$'s short volume more than doubled Thursday as the stock tumbled 7%, erasing all of this year's gains. It fell another 1.7% Friday. Investors turned sour on the electric vehicle maker as skeptics cast doubt over CEO Elon Musk's ability to fulfill his promise to start selling its Optimus humanoid robots in 2026.
Tesla bulls have been counting on humanoid robots and robotaxis to counter declining electric vehicle sales and bolster revenue growth.
