Nebius Earnings Ignite AI Cloud Trade: Can the Momentum Continue?
$NEBIUS (NBIS.US)$ options traders braced for massive price swings as a blockbuster second-quarter earnings report sent the stock of the neocloud company soaring 34% by the time the market closed Wednesday.
Implied volatility for near-term options expiring on Friday surged to a staggering 136% in early trading. The extreme options pricing reflected the immediate market reaction to an earnings beat that fundamentally shifted investor expectations.
Nebius revenue jumped more than five-fold to $582.3 million in the second quarter, comfortably beating the Bloomberg consensus estimate of $557 million. Profitability also surprised to the upside, with adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (Ebitda) reaching $236.2 million against expectations of $157.9 million.
Meanwhile, annualized recurring revenue hit $3 billion by the end of June, surpassing the 2.69 billion that analysts were expecting, according to estimates compiled by Bloomberg. The company raised its year-end capacity guidance to 5 gigawatts from over 4 gigawatts, helping spark a 21% surge in the stock price.

The derivatives market reacted to the catalyst with intense positioning shifts. The options term structure showed a massive volatility spike in front-month contracts that sharply flattened out near 102% for later expirations. Implied volatility reflects how much movement options traders expect in a stock over a given timeframe, and higher implied volatility makes options more expensive because larger price swings become priced into the contracts.
The steep drop across the term structure, which shows how expected volatility changes across different option expiration dates, means that short-term options carry massive event premiums that could quickly dissipate once the binary earnings hurdle is cleared.
CEO Arkady Volozh's comments during the company's earnings call Wednesday morning helped ease the revenue uncertainty and underpins 2027-and-beyond growth—exactly what investors reward.
"This quarter alone, we closed four landmark deals with Reflection, Cohere, as well as with a scale U.S., neolab, and a large U.S.-based quant trading firm," the CEO said. "And with $40 billion in contracted backlog, we will do more of this."

Amid the surge, the stock now sits between a heavy call wall at the $250 strike and a prominent put wall at $220. As a result, dealer positioning creates a structured trading corridor defined by these key options barriers. Gamma measures how sensitive an option's delta is to changes in the underlying stock price, and it can cause market makers to buy or sell shares more actively as the stock moves, potentially amplifying an existing move, though it does not predict direction.
Because the stock price sits comfortably between these strikes, market maker hedging flows may act to dampen volatility rather than accelerate it as the stock tests these major barriers. For retail investors, understanding these gamma walls helps clarify why a stock may encounter sticky resistance or support as it interacts with dense options concentrations.
Ultimately, the combination of a top-line beat, and explosive annualized recurring revenue growth propelled the stock into new territory. That episode highlights how massive operational updates can reshape options pricing overnight, turning sky-high implied volatility into a reminder of how quickly market expectations can shift when a company delivers clear proof of secular demand.
