Breaking News
Anwar to Announce Rates of Civil Service Pay Hike Before Tabling of Budget 2025
Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced that the rates of civil servants' salary increase, to be implemented from December 2024, will be announced before the tabling of Budget 2025 in October. The review of the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA) was undertaken by the unity government last year after the last review of the salary scheme was conducted in 2013. The civil servants will enjoy a salary hike of more than 13%, the highest increase in the nation's history. Anwar also reminded civil servants not to be swayed by political talks regarding the issue of the sale of Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) shares, and to follow the development of the issue to know the truth and get the right picture.
Malaysia to Position Itself at Forefront of Semiconductor Industry
Malaysia's Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said that the initiative to elevate production up the value chain will position Malaysia at the forefront of the semiconductor industry. This move presents an opportunity for Malaysia to play a pivotal role in the global supply chain, especially amid the trade tensions between the US and China as companies are reconfiguring their supply chains. The Asia Pacific semiconductor market size was estimated at almost US$288 billion in 2023 and is forecast to reach US$612 billion by 2033, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 7.83% from 2024 to 2033. The global semiconductor industry is expected to reach US$1 trillion by 2030. Tengku Zafrul said the government is confident that with a strong foundation in the semiconductor industry, Malaysia can be a true semiconductor powerhouse not just in assembly, but also in innovation and design.
