Major stock indexes closed lower after a White House spokesman confirmed that the U.S. will raise tariffs on Chinese imports to 104%, Reuters reported.
The $Nasdaq Composite Index (.IXIC.US)$ shed 335.35 points (2.2%) to a 15,267.91 close, while the $S&P 500 Index (.SPX.US)$ lost 79.48 ticks (1.6%) to 4,982.77 and the $Dow Jones Industrial Average (.DJI.US)$ gave back 320.01 (0.8%) to 37,645.59.

Singapore will create a national task force to support businesses and workers affected by new US tariffs, which could harm economic growth and jobs. Tariffs are likely to slow down global growth soon, reducing external demand for Singapore's key export sectors like manufacturing and wholesale trade.

$UOB (U11.SG)$ is increasing its investment in its Vietnam subsidiary by adding two trillion dong (S$104 million), raising the subsidiary's total charter capital to 10 trillion dong.
Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India, a subsidiary of $Sembcorp Ind (U96.SG)$, has formed a joint venture with Bharat Petroleum, an Indian state-owned oil and gas firm.
