Mooers' Stories | Champion sharing of 235% return with various option strategies @Drgon Empty Drg
We're honored to invite @Drgon Empty Drg, the CHAMPION of US Papertrading Competition (Season 2), to share his investment story with all the mooers in our community. Let's shout out to him!👏👏
Dive in here:
Your username is interesting! Would you mind sharing the origin of this name or the story behind it?
- Hi there, I am Dragon empty Dra. Since not enough space I can’t input full of name, literally it is Dragon empty Dragon, which in my native language means only trading one who has the best performance in stock market.
- Actually my name is William. I am 38yrs, working in the Standard Charted, ANZ China before and private equity funds management.
What are your hobbies?
- My hobbies are reading, music, gym, gaming, golf, and driving alone.
How long have you been involved in stock trading or investing? When did you start investing?
- I joined the market firstly in one stock, the $SSE Composite Index (000001.SH)$. It should began in the middle of 2015, nearly 10yrs ago. Yes, that’s a bull year in China.
What initially sparked your interest in the stock market and investing?
-To be honest, initially sparked my interest is that I want more money, a very easy mind.
What kind of investor are you?
- If I have to define my kind or type, I think I'm just like Jesse Livermore, an aggressive trading type.
Story Sharing
How did you learn to invest at the beginning?
- In the beginning, I will follow my peers, communicate with some who has more experience in the market, and learn the technical skills through the video, or attend some communities to learn the different types of investment.
How would you describe your investing style?
- Aggressive with cooling down. Get rid of dreaming.
What are your long-term goals for investing?
- Earn money, but do not dream of financial freedom.
How do you typically handle market volatility or downturns?
- Waiting like a Hunter. When volatility happens, I will be very excited. As we should know, short-term investment almost only earn from volatility, not from company's fast growth.
Do you have a specific risk management strategy?
- When you feel that it’s very hard to make decision, just let yourself stop. When you feel risk happened, let yourself stop immediately. Even though this decision makes you lose lots of money, you have to do it!
Are there any impressive cases you can share? Like your best trade ever?
- To be honest, I think any trade that makes money is a good trade, even if it's just $1. Definitely, I don't mean the trade that makes you lose money is not a good trade, since it can help you to review your trading execution - which problem made this wrong? Did you feel scare? Did you lack confidence at that point? Or did you just not trade as you planed before?
How do you balance trading or investing with your daily life, work, and other commitments?
- I think, firstly, it should not impact your life and your family. Always be happy, that’s very important. Secondly, do not let trading occupied you life. The last but not least, DO NOT LET TRADING MAKE YOU INTO A BAD MOOD. Especially when you lose money. Learn to leave the table.

About the Paper-trading Campaign
Mooers' Stories | Champion sharing of 235% return with various option strategies @Drgon Empty Drg
How did you get started in stock trading, and what led you to join the Moomoo papertrading competition?
- Based on the product design, lol. I opened an account before Japan's hike and the Fed's preparation to cut rates. I expect that opportunity, so I did it. But the paper trading thing is a coincidence. When I clicked the Discover tab and saw 'Paper Trade', for the aim of fun, I tried it.
Can you describe the main strategy you employed during the competition?
- My strategy is to find volatility with suitable lever I can undertake. But I have to say, when I had distance from ranking 1 about 25% in the last day, I did parts of betting. So only to say, I got rank 1 with luck.
How did you decide on which stocks to invest in and when to make your moves?
- I will make a plan before it begins. If things are not running as my expectation, I have to admit the mistake. Surely it is based on the Marco environment. Especially, relax with your trading.
What were the most challenging moments during the competition, and how did you navigate them?
- Emm…. I joined the challenge only for fun at the beginning, not for challenging at all; but when I ranked up, and I found myself had a chance to get the first one, I then desire to catch it up. So the last day was the most challenging moment. I try to let myself calm down, make myself relax - which forced myself to read books.
How did your previous trading experiences (if any) help you in this competition?
- It must be yes. The most important thing is not the skill you have, but the mood. It's what you think.
Mooers' Stories | Champion sharing of 235% return with various option strategies @Drgon Empty Drg
Were there any specific indicators or tools that you relied on heavily during the competition?
- MARCO ENVIRONMENT.
What key lessons or insights have you taken away from this competition that you think could benefit other traders?
- Learn to forgive your mistakes, learn to find peace, learn to make yourself happy and relax. And the last one is to learn to catch the market scare point, that’s you need to learn and feel with your heart.
How do you think paper trading competitions differ from real-world trading, and how has this competition prepared you for real investments?
- Frankly speaking, paper trading is really different from real-world trading, that’s all we known, since paper trading you could be over brave without mind. But in the real-world, you must be the guy who is very timid, and you will be set to take profit and stop loss.  In this competition, at least I know you should always respect the market.

Any advice for moomoo?
How did you get to know the moomoo platform?
- I know moomoo very long time ago, but this time I am ready to trade in the US market, so I let my friend give me a referral link.
How was your experience using the moomoo platform?
- Very easy to use, and I like the phone version very much. That looks very user-friendly.
Where are there specific features on moomoo that you found particularly useful?
- I have to say, community is very very useful to let me know most part of attender mood, and know some news what I not found.
Is there any feedback or suggestions you'd like to share to improve the moomoo platform further?
- There’ s only one suggestion I would like to say, if moomoo have further competition, please set a real-world competition to set different level of balance. For example, 1000-5000 as one group, 5000-10k, 10k-20k, 30k-50k, 50K-100K, above 100K-200k, above 200K. That’s it.
What do you find most challenging in investing? How do you overcome it?
- The journey of investing is not about how much money you have. It is about your skill. You have to learn, and you must keep your MOOD in peace. When I feel anxious, I will go to the gym or read books. Sometimes you have to stop trading. It doesn't mean you really stop trading forever, but just letting you think more carefully.

Any advice for mooers?
If you could travel back to when you just started, what advice and warning would you give a younger person regarding investing or trading?
- If I can travel back…..that’s a wonderful imagination. The lever was a tool, but it can also be a sword towards you. Do not trade with a lever when you are not skillful.

  • CasualInvestor : William, when you do paper trade VS actual trades. Do you feel the mentality is different especially when capital is now your own. [undefined]

What lessons from paper trading do you feel is applicable to bring to your actual trades? [undefined]

I’ve never done paper trading before. Just dived in like learning mahjong 🀄️. [undefined]

  • Drgon Empty Drg 102362254 : No,as we know, option are leveraged, I just use a very very little amount of money to catch in the main point—such like exciting from market or scare from the marketing

  • Drgon Empty Drg CasualInvestor : Be honestly, some different between of them. As mental issue, I have to say it should adjust by yourself, that’s very very hard to control it. Of cause, when you do the paper trading you gonna be over brave. Which means when we do real trading, you just set how much I am in before you ready to in. For the paper and real, you just have only one thinking is direction, whatever, you sell or you buy, you just focus direction you choose, paper is only the one let you trading more money.

  • CNNT : How long do you think you will hang on to this career? Before that,  is this a career or a hobby?
