Many restrictions required by Mercedes "Level 3" autonomous driving system
$Tesla(TSLA.US$ $BYD COMPANY(01211.HK$ $NIO Inc(NIO.US$ $XPeng(XPEV.US$ This article reported that there are a ton of restrictions with this Mercedes "Level 3" autonomous (driving) system:
• It only works on 0.2% of roads, and can only be used on highways
• The car can only travel 40mph or slower
• Can only be used at temps above 40°F
• You can't be the only car on the road
• The weather must be good (no rain)
• Must be daytime
• No construction zones
Tesla's FSD (Supervised) has none of these restrictions. You can use it on nearly any road in the U.S. You just need to lightly touch the steering wheel every 30 seconds.
My take: Someone will use the Fortune's article to brag that Mercedes so-called L3 Autonomous vehicle is better than Tesla FSD V12 without telling you all the restrictions. In fact many autonomous driving systems rolled out are city-bound only due to its limitation to coding and HD map requirements. You can read the related articles:
