๐Ÿ“ˆ Malaysia Banks - December 2025 industry trends: Rebound on key factors, but still early days

On 6th February, Macquarie Equities Research (MQ Research) published a report analysing recent developments within the Malaysian banking sector. The report noted an unexpected acceleration in deposit growth, contrasting with a continued slowdown in loan growth, which remains subdued due to weak demand for working capital.

In terms of bank rankings, MQ Research maintains its preference for Maybank (MAY) at the top, followed by CIMB, Hong Leong Bank, RHB Bank, Public Bank (PBK), and Ambank (AMM). According to MQ Research, both MAY and CIMB are positioned favourably to navigate domestic deposit conditions effectively. Read on for an excerpt from MQ Researchโ€™s report dated 6th February 2026, along with key disclaimers.
