Before and after the ban on TikTok took effect, American netizens dramatically flocked to another Chinese app called RedNote. Since last Tuesday, the application has topped the list as the most downloaded free app on Apple's App Store in the U.S. There was also a staggering 4,900% surge in Google searches for RedNote in the U.S. on just last Monday.
RedNote's unique community atmosphere, algorithmic mechanisms, and rich content ecosystem starkly contrast those of other social platforms in the U.S.
The massive influx of traffic helped RedNote even top the download charts in Canada, Australia, and other countries as users in these regions said they don't want to lose American users on TikTok.
This collective frenzy led by the so-called "TikTok refugees" shows that ordinary people are tired of the various visible and invisible obstacles between the United States and China, including various types of existing and potential upcoming tariffs, executive orders, and sanctions.
Trump stated that he will collaborate with tech companies to save TikTok.
On January 19, American netizens shared that the U.S. version of TikTok had notified users that they could no longer continue browsing. However, the platform welcomed back U.S. users later, ending a 14-hour shutdown.
Donald Trump has indicated that he would 'most likely' grant TikTok a 90-day reprieve from the ban once he assumes office on Monday, a commitment referenced by TikTok in a notice shared with its users. During a "victory rally" at his three-day inauguration event on Sunday, Trump announced, "as of today, TikTok is back," addressing the crowd in D.C. He stated, "we have no choice, we have to save it," and proposed that the U.S. would own 50% of the company in a "joint venture" that would “make a lot of money.”

Beyond this ban, Trump is facing more challenges, including concerns about reflation, a skyrocketing budget deficit, and endless defense spending. These issues, along with TikTok, all require Trump to negotiate with China.
According to a report by The Wall Street Journal on Saturday, U.S. President-elect Trump has told advisors that he intends to visit China within the first 100 days of his administration. Last Friday, Trump had a phone conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping and wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social, after the call: "I look forward to us working together to solve many problems, starting immediately."
RedNote users are interested in more than just the alternative of TikTok.
Many American internet users on RedNote have found numerous Chinese products that are banned from sale in the U.S. market, and they have expressed a desire to purchase them. These products include advanced electric vehicles, smartphones, and tech gadgets.
Whether or not you've paid the "Cat Tax" on RedNote, here's a list of Chinese companies going global, curated by Moomoo for investors:
