According to Bespoke Investment Group, historical performances or past statistics, show that the upcoming holiday-shortened trading week following Martin Luther King Day is usually weak for the stock market.
In the median year between 1998 and 2023, the S&P500 lost about 0.3% in the 4-day trading week after the holiday. The S&P 500 has finished the week up just 38% of the time.
