Huya Acquires Tencent’s APKPure
On December 22, $HUYA Inc(HUYA.US$, a leading Chinese interactive livestreaming platform, submitted a document to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), disclosing a significant business transaction. Huya acquired 100% equity of a global mobile application service provider from $Tencent(TCEHY.US$ for $81 million. The acquired entity is reported to be APKPure, an overseas app store under Tencent's portfolio.
The acquisition aims to bolster Huya's capacity to promote and distribute gaming applications globally and synergize with its overseas gaming live streaming platform, Nimo TV. Tencent's sale of APKPure to Huya is part of its broader strategy for business restructuring and cost reduction, aligning with its focus on efficiency improvement and operational streamlining.
The move exemplifies Tencent's strategic approach of reducing its investment footprint and strategically divesting from various businesses. In the past year, Tencent has shut down peripheral businesses and strategically divested while reducing its overall investment activities. The sale of Tencent Animation to Yuewen Group and the recent APKPure transaction are indicative of Tencent's cautious and focused investment strategy in 2023, with a notable decrease in new projects initiated.
