HIMS Q1 2026 Review: A Messy Transition Quarter, but Subscriber Growth Is Re-Accelerating

But the key positive signal is that subscriber growth re-accelerated sequentially after HIMS expanded its branded GLP-1 portfolio, suggesting the strategic pivot is already helping broaden consumer reach. The investment debate now shifts from “Can HIMS monetize compounded GLP-1 demand?” to “Can HIMS build a durable branded obesity-care and consumer-health platform?”
Headline Results: Growth Slowed, Profitability Reset
Hims & Hers reported Q1 2026 revenue of $608.1 million, up 4% year over year. Subscribers reached 2.584 million, up 9% year over year, while monthly revenue per average subscriber declined to $80, down 6% from last year. Gross margin fell to 65% from 73%, and the company posted a GAAP net loss of $92.1 million, compared with net income of $49.5 million a year ago. Adjusted EBITDA was $44.3 million, down from $91.1 million last year.

The quarter clearly showed short-term financial pressure. But it also showed that the company is still adding users and generating positive free cash flow, which matters because HIMS is trying to transition from a high-growth GLP-1 compounding story into a broader, more compliant branded-treatment platform.
The Most Important Positive Signal: Subscriber Growth Re-Accelerated QoQ
The most important improvement in the quarter was not revenue. It was subscriber momentum.
HIMS ended Q3 2025 with 2.471 million subscribers, Q4 2025 with 2.511 million, and Q1 2026 with 2.584 million. That means sequential subscriber additions increased from about +40,000 in Q4 to about +73,000 in Q1, while quarter-over-quarter subscriber growth accelerated from roughly +1.6% to +2.9%.

This is important because it suggests that the expanded branded GLP-1 portfolio is having a positive effect on customer acquisition. Management said the company had fulfilled more than 125,000 Wegovy product shipments within six weeks of introducing direct access to Novo Nordisk’s GLP-1 products on the platform. Management also said the branded weight-loss pivot put HIMS on track to add more than 100,000 new subscribers per month in the weight-loss specialty, with nearly 90% of those users downloading the app and average first-month provider interactions of about 3x.
That is the key bull-case datapoint: the shift away from compounded GLP-1s hurt near-term margins, but it appears to have expanded HIMS’ reachable user base and improved the credibility of its platform model.
GLP-1 Strategy: From Compounding Upside to Branded Platform Scale
The biggest strategic change is the move from compounded GLP-1 reliance toward a broader branded GLP-1 model. HIMS stopped advertising compounded GLP-1 products and shifted toward branded options, including Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy products and access pathways related to Lilly’s Zepbound vials and KwikPen.
This pivot changes the investment story in two ways.
First, it lowers the regulatory and legal overhang associated with compounded GLP-1s. That should make the model more sustainable and more attractive to pharma partners.
Second, it likely lowers near-term gross margin. Branded GLP-1 products are less margin-rich than earlier compounded offerings, and management explicitly expects gross margin compression as weight loss, labs, and international markets become a larger part of the mix.
In other words, HIMS is trading near-term margin quality for a potentially larger and more durable growth runway.
Margin Pressure: Mostly Transition-Driven, but Still a Real Watch Point
Q1 gross margin fell sharply to 65%, compared with 73% a year ago. Management attributed part of the pressure to roughly $33 million of restructuring costs tied to the weight-loss pivot, mainly related to write-downs in the compounded GLP-1 supply chain. About $28 million of those charges hit gross margin, reducing gross margin by roughly five percentage points. Excluding those one-time costs, gross margin would have been about 70%.
That means the reported margin decline was partly one-time, but not fully dismissible. Even adjusted gross margin remains below the company’s historical profile. The reason is structural: branded GLP-1s, labs, and international expansion are lower-margin categories at this stage.
The market will therefore focus on whether HIMS can prove that lower gross margins are offset by stronger subscriber growth, better retention, higher cross-sell, and improved operating leverage over time.
Guidance: Revenue Raised, EBITDA Reset
Management guided Q2 revenue to $680 million to $700 million, implying a clear step-up from Q1. For the full year, HIMS raised revenue guidance to $2.8 billion to $3.0 billion, while adjusted EBITDA guidance was updated to $275 million to $350 million, implying a 10% to 12% adjusted EBITDA margin.
$Hims & Hers Health (HIMS.US)$ Q1 was not a clean beat-and-raise quarter. Revenue growth slowed, GAAP profitability flipped to a loss, and margins were pressured by the company’s weight-loss strategy reset. as a result, the stock price fell by more than 14% in after-hours trading. This guidance tells investors two things at the same time. Revenue momentum should improve from Q2 onward, but profitability will remain under pressure as HIMS scales branded weight loss, labs, and international markets.
International and Platform Expansion: Still a Medium-Term Tailwind
International revenue increased to $78.2 million from $7.3 million a year ago, helped by acquisitions such as ZAVA and Livewell. The planned Eucalyptus acquisition, expected to close in the second half of 2026, is not included in the current outlook, which means international contribution could become more relevant later in the year if the transaction closes on schedule.
Management is also leaning harder into the platform narrative. The company is expanding into testosterone, menopause, labs, and potentially peptides, while building AI tools such as provider-side copilots, Labs AI, and a planned AI weight-loss companion. The strategic goal is to move beyond one-off treatment categories and become a broader daily health platform.
This matters for valuation. If HIMS is viewed only as a GLP-1 distribution channel, the multiple will likely stay constrained. If it proves that weight loss can act as an entry point into a multi-specialty, high-retention consumer-health platform, the equity story becomes more attractive.
What Investors Should Watch Next
The first metric to watch is subscriber growth. Q1 showed sequential acceleration, and the branded GLP-1 portfolio appears to be helping rebuild user momentum. If Q2 subscriber additions continue to accelerate, it would support the idea that the pivot is expanding the addressable market.
The second metric is gross margin stability. Investors need to see whether margins can stabilize near the adjusted 70% level, or whether branded GLP-1 mix continues to dilute profitability.
The third metric is monthly revenue per average subscriber. Subscriber growth is positive, but ARPU fell to $80. If new GLP-1 users are lower-margin or lower-ARPU users, HIMS will need cross-sell and retention to prove lifetime value.
The fourth metric is H2 adjusted EBITDA recovery. Management expects adjusted EBITDA dollars to step up in Q3 and Q4 as monthly cohorts compound and operating leverage improves. That will be a critical test of whether Q1 was a transition trough or the beginning of a lower-margin model.
The fifth metric is pharma partnership expansion. The more branded manufacturers use HIMS as a consumer access channel, the more defensible the platform becomes.
Bottom Line
HIMS Q1 2026 was a mixed quarter, but not a broken thesis. The negatives are clear: revenue growth slowed, GAAP losses widened, gross margin compressed, and adjusted EBITDA declined. The positives are also clear: subscriber growth re-accelerated quarter over quarter, branded GLP-1 demand is showing early traction, free cash flow remained positive, and full-year revenue guidance moved higher.
The key conclusion is simple: HIMS is using short-term profitability to buy a more durable, compliant, and scalable platform model. Q1 showed the cost of that transition. Q2 and the second half of 2026 will show whether the subscriber acceleration from branded GLP-1 access can translate into sustainable revenue growth and margin recovery.
