$GOOGL Waymo released a cut at safety data.
$Alphabet-A(GOOGL.US$ Punchline is Waymo is far safer than a human driver which isn't that surprising to anyone who has ridden in one.
It also probably helps that Waymo's generally are driving at low speeds in urban environments, and are kitted out with tons of sensors identifying objects / calculating trajectories - so can just detect threats and react pretty quickly. Versus a human driver just can't compete since we can only look in one direction at a time, and even the best of us are only paying 75% attention.
Numbers
-Waymo had 0.41 crash incidence per million miles vs 2.78 for human benchmark
-Waymo had 0.41 crash incidence per million miles vs 2.78 for human benchmark
-Waymo had 2.1 police-reported crash rate per million miles vs 4.85 for the human benchmark
