Elon Musk visits China as Tesla seeks self-driving technology rollout

$Tesla(TSLA.US)$ $BYD COMPANY(01211.HK)$ $NIO Inc(NIO.US)$ $XPeng(XPEV.US)$ The article reported that Tesla chief executive Elon Musk landed in Beijing on April 28 for a surprise visit, where he is expected to meet senior officials to discuss the rollout of Full Self-Driving software and permission to transfer data overseas, according to a person with knowledge of the matter.
China Premier said:
Chinese state media reported that he met Premier Li Qiang in Beijing. Mr Li told Mr Musk that Tesla’s development in China could be regarded as a successful example of US-China economic and trade cooperation.
Tesla's Vice-president said:
On April 26, Ms Grace Tao, Tesla’s vice-president in charge of external relations in China, published a commentary on the social media account of state media outlet People’s Daily, arguing that autonomous driving technologies would be the new growth engine for the EV industry. Ms Tao said in the article that Tesla was leading autonomous driving research and development with its “end-to-end neural network” technology and data collected from millions of cars on the road.
Expert said:
China’s complicated traffic conditions, with more pedestrians and cyclists than in many other markets, provide more scenarios that are key for training autonomous driving algorithms at a faster pace, according to industry experts.
According to Daily China, China Premier said:
Premier Li Qiang pledged to continue to expand market access and improve services to provide a better business environment and stronger support for foreign enterprises, allowing them to invest in China with confidence and assurance.
Elon Musk said:
Thanks to the hard work and wisdom of the Chinese team, Tesla's Shanghai gigafactory is his company's top performer. He expressed a willingness to deepen cooperation with China to achieve more mutually beneficial outcomes.
My Take: Skeptics said Tesla is not welcomed in China and doubted what EM said about Tesla Robotaxi unveil on 8 August. I think the 2 articles by Straits Times and ChinaDaily (and many more) showed otherwise. As I mentioned in my previous post, what Tesla will do in the next 4 months can tell what EM said is true or not - only time will tell. This is what EM said (to the skeptics):
When asked about the pathway to regulatory approval for unsupervised FSD in the United States, he said, “Other autonomous driving companies are also working with regulators. The safety numbers are going to be hard to ignore. I don't think there will be significant regulatory barriers if we can prove the safety data is there.”
This is not a desperate moment for Tesla. There is a significant reason why EM chose to roll out FSD in China. China’s complicated traffic conditions, with more pedestrians and cyclists than in many other markets, provide more scenarios that are key for training autonomous driving algorithms at a faster pace, according to industry experts. It goes to show that EM and his team are very confident with FSD V12 - the most powerful autonomous driving software which can be used on any road  (no geo-fencing limitation) and has a 1-billion-mile driving track record.
