Deal or no deal

Currently, OpenAI has not formalized any agreement with MU, though that status may evolve. Samsung and SK Hynix are expected to supply the Stargate initiative with up to 900,000 DRAM wafers per month—representing approximately 40% of global DRAM production—alongside a significant volume of high-bandwidth memory (HBM). If I were advising OpenAI, I’d recommend diversifying its supply chain by onboarding an additional domestic partner such as Micron (MU) to enhance strategic leverage. Given the scale of Stargate, the project could trigger a global memory crunch and drive up prices, similar to how sourcing GPUs from both AMD and NVIDIA helps mitigate supply bottlenecks.
