$DBS Group Holdings(D05.SG$ I don’t really understand why people like to take small profits on this stock by selling after the price rises by a bit. This will cause them to lose out on good dividends because they won’t be able to buy back at a good price before the ex date.

Explorer_ : shouldnt short this kind of dividend based stock
102447816 : this is not true bro, as long as you can make profit by shorting it, you should do it. still 1 month ahead of the ex date, the price definitely will fuctuate again and again
1025995400 : Why bother, continue to buy more la, they give u chances to buy in low price…keep buying n hold
dydxequalszeroOP 102447816: Hi bro. thanks for the reply. Let’s say you have 1 lot of DBS shares. In one year you are guaranteed $2160 and above in dividends and you can choose to sell or hold depending on the price. You can easily make $3K by holding this stock for one year. By trading frequently, say you make $300 per trade, you will need to make 10 successful trades. And not all trades will turn out well, some go wrong and you lose instead. And to add on, you waste time monitoring the market. So for stocks like this, buy and hold is the way to go. And use the dividends to accumulate more. In the long run, it’ll be a good source of constant income.

ykw5257 dydxequalszeroOP: Hi newbie here, may I know the calculations of 1 lot dbs with guaranteed $2160 in a year?
dydxequalszeroOP ykw5257: Moving forward DBS has said they will be paying 54 cents and above dividends on a quarterly basis. That’s $540 per quarter so it works out to at least $2160 per year if you hold a 1000 DBS shares.
ykw5257 dydxequalszeroOP: Oh okay thanks for sharing
dydxequalszeroOP ykw5257: No problem. Just remember buying stocks is not gambling. So take a calculated approach and you will do well in the long run. It’ll benefit yourself and those around you.
ykw5257 dydxequalszeroOP: Noted
