'Crying out for relief': Bank of Canada to cut rates more sharply than Fed, says CIBC
Avery Shenfeld, managing director and chief economist at CIBC Capital Markets, talks with Financial Post’s Larysa Harapyn about the factors that could compel the Bank of Canada to cut interest rates more sharply than the United States Federal Reserve. Shenfeld argues the Bank of Canada will need to cut rates more than the Federal Reserve — to 3 per cent by 2025.

US, European Natural Gas Prices Fall Week Over Week, EIA Reports
US natural gas prices fell at most locations in the week ended March 27, with the benchmark Henry Hub spot price down US$0.13 to US$1.44 per million British thermal units week over week, the US Energy Information Administration reported Thursday.
Liquefied natural gas prices in East Asia rose US$0.21 from the previous week to US$9.48/MMBtu, the EIA reported, citing data from Bloomberg Finance. Title Transfer Facility natural gas prices in Europe, however, fell US$0.11 to US$8.74/MMBtu week over week.
US natural gas supply edged higher by 0.3% from the previous week, driven by an increase in average net imports from Canada. US natural gas consumption jumped 6.3% as residential and commercial demand increased due to below-average temperatures across most of the country, the EIA said, citing data from S&P Global Commodity Insights.
Net withdrawals from storage amounted to 36 Bcf for the week ending March 22, resulting in working natural gas stocks of 2,296 Bcf. This was 669 Bcf more than the five-year average and 430 Bcf more than the year-ago period, the EIA said.
Crude Oil Prices Post 3rd Consecutive Month Of Gains In March
Crude oil prices saw gains on an improving demand outlook stemming from upbeat Chinese manufacturing data, on top of expectations of tighter supply from OPEC+ output cuts and attacks on Russian refineries, Reuters reported Monday.
Brent crude stood at US$86.82 per barrel and West Texas Intermediate crude was at US$83.06/b at last look early Monday. Both benchmarks posted a third consecutive month of gains in March, according to the report.
However, trading volumes were thin as markets in several countries remained closed for the Easter holidays, the report said.
"Geopolitical risks to crude and heavy feedstock supplies add to strong (second-quarter) demand fundamentals," Reuters quoted Energy Aspects analysts as saying in a note.
