With high interest rates, high inflation, and a weak economy, investors worried that the Fed will keep rates high while confidence in the performance of the economy was also hit, causing U.S. stocks to fail at Thursday's open. The Dow Jones, the S&P 500, the Nasdaq all fell, and only the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index rose. Rising:
▪ The Dow Jones index fell 375.12 points, or 0.98%, to close at 38,085.8.
▪ The Nasdaq fell 100.99 points, or 0.64%, to close at 15,611.76.
▪ The S&P 500 fell 23.21 points, or 0.46%, to close at 5,048.42.
▪ The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index rose 88.84 points, or 1.96%, to close at 4,615.04.
Bitcoin Drops Below 6.3K
Following the below-expected GDP and still-grim inflation data, Bitcoin edged up more than nine points last night at $62,747, and is currently reported at $60182.
