Consumer confidence stays below 85 points for longer than 90s recession

The ANZ-Roy Morgan Australian consumer confidence rating has shown that Australian consumer's confidence has fallen for a second week in a row - now sitting at 81.9 points.

The current economic environment has kept consumer confidence below 85 points for a record 62 weeks, a full 23 weeks longer than experienced during the 1990s recession, said ANZ economist Madeline Dunk (Morningstar).
In addition, the CPI reading for March, which is being released tomorrow morning, is expected to show that monthly consumer prices were down from February - but annual inflation may rise.
