US stock futures were higher, with S&P Index futures advancing 0.3% before the start of trading.

Housing starts and permits for October will be released at 8:30 am ET, followed by e-commerce retail sales for Q3 and the Census Bureau services survey for Q3 at 10 am ET. The Baker Hughes North American rig count for the week ended Nov. 17 will be released at 1 pm ET.

In premarket action, bitcoin was up 0.9% and the cryptocurrency fund ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) rose 1.2%.

Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLP) was up 0.2%, while the Vanguard Consumer Staples Fund (VDC) and the iShares US Consumer Staples ETF (IYK) were both inactive. Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLY) was up 0.4%, while the VanEck Retail ETF (RTH) and the SPDR S&P Retail ETF (XRT) were both inactive.

Gap (GPS) surged 19%, a day after reporting fiscal Q3 adjusted diluted earnings and revenue that came above analysts' estimates.
