Chairman Powell says the FRB needs to be patient - no progress is being made to calm inflation
Chairman Powell of the US Federal Reserve (FRB) expressed the view that the US monetary authorities should be patient, and it is necessary to continue to maintain policy interest rates at a high level based on the fact that there has been no progress in calming inflation in recent months.
Chairman Powell gave a lecture at an event hosted by a Dutch foreign bank-related organization held in Amsterdam on the 14th. After showing the forecast that inflation would slow down on a monthly basis, he stated that the price data for January-March (first quarter) weakened the confidence he had. The current monetary policy was positioned as suppressing the economy.
Chairman Powell stated that “the United States significantly lacked further progress in stabilizing inflation in the first quarter,” and “I didn't think it would be a smooth journey, but inflation during this time was at a higher level than anyone else's expectations.”
