ByteDance's PICO Reportedly Adjusts Organisational Structure, Plans to Increase XR R&D Input

ByteDance VR unit PICO makes organizational restructuring.

Plans to merge mobile OS team into ByteDance product R&D and engineering division for centralization purposes.

In 2021, ByteDance acquired PICO for RMB9 billion, and PICO said at the 2022 product conference that the sales volume of PICO 4 would exceed 1 million units. However, PICO has been rumoured to have lower-than-expected sales volume this year and has to adjust its sales target.

Previously, there were rumours of layoffs and structural changes within PICO. In mid-October, there was news that PICO was strategically abandoned by ByteDance, with several of PICO's internal senior management transferred or departed. The rumour was later denied by the parent.
