BABA-SW's Joseph Tsai on China's Plans for High-end GPUs
BABA's chairman and co-founder Joseph Tsai discussed China's strategy for high-end GPUs in an interview, addressing concerns about chip bans and domestic production capacity.
According to Tsai, the U.S. ban on chip exports to Mainland China, affecting companies like $NVIDIA(NVDA.US$ , has impacted $BABA-SW(09988.HK$ 's cloud business and computing services. While acknowledging short and medium-term challenges, Tsai expressed confidence in China's ability to manufacture high-end GPUs in the long run.
Despite current chip shortages, Tsai revealed efforts to address the issue and suggested that inventories could sustain large-scale language model training for the next year to year and a half. He also emphasized alternative reasoning options that don't require the latest high-powered chips.
