AU Evening Wrap: Australia Shares Slip 0.15%, Round Out Weekly Gain
Australia's $S&P/ASX 200(.XJO.AU$ closed 0.15% lower at 7770.6, dragged into the red by weak commodity stocks. The ASX's 1.3% weekly gain marked its third rise of that size in the last four weeks.
Iron-ore, gold, coal and oil stocks all finished lower as the benchmark index pared its gains for the week despite a positive lead by U.S. equities. Iron-ore miners $Rio Tinto Ltd(RIO.AU$, $BHP Group Ltd(BHP.AU$ and $Fortescue Ltd(FMG.AU$ gave up between 0.5% and 2.1%, although all three finished higher over a week in which the commodity's price rose.
Energy was Friday's worst-performing sector, losing 1.3% amid lower oil prices.
Shares of three of the four largest banks finished lower, but gains by insurers helped trim the financial sector's losses to 0.2%.
