AU Evening Wrap: Australia Shares Rise 0.5%, Tech and Consumer Staples Standout
$S&P/ASX 200(.XJO.AU$ rose 0.5% to 7235.3, with almost all sectors finishing the day in positive territory, despite weakening business confidence and still-soft consumer sentiment.
Technology and consumer staples were standout sectors, rising 2.1% and 1.4%, respectively, while materials was the only holdout, closing flat.
Among tech stocks, $Xero Ltd(XRO.AU$ rose 3.8%, $WiseTech Global Ltd(WTC.AU$ put on 2.9% and $Altium Ltd(ALU.AU$ finished the day 1.3% higher.
Consumer stocks $The a2 Milk Co Ltd(A2M.AU$, $Bega Cheese Ltd(BGA.AU$ and $Costa Group Holdings Ltd(CGC.AU$ rose 0.3%, 0.6% and 2.7%, respectively.
$Genesis Minerals Ltd(GMD.AU$ was the day's poorest performer, falling 6.2%, followed by $Lynas Rare Earths Ltd(LYC.AU$, which lost 4.6%.
