ArcBest to Utilize NVIDIA (NVDA.US) Technology in Automated Forklifts and Robots

ArcBest on Tuesday announced a new partnership with NVIDIA that will utilize NVIDIA's Isaac Perceptor to improve the safety and efficiency of material handling processes in warehouses, distribution centers and manufacturing facilities.

The company said it will apply NVIDIA's Isaac Perceptor platform for autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) to its newly launched automated forklifts and reach trucks. According to the report, the Isaac Perceptor modular perception stack brings three-dimensional surround perception that promises to enable robots to better recognize objects, track human movement and make informed decisions to guide the robot's path for safer, more flexible and efficient operations.

Isaac Perceptor is known to generate more than 16.5 million 3D points per second per camera, enabling accurate depth perception of obstacles to map 3D spatial distribution, making material handling processes more efficient and safer. The technology is rumored to be more cost-effective than current 3D LIDAR sensors.

In addition to dealing with real-world environments, Isaac Perceptor's capabilities include very cost-effective, targeted obstacle sensing in the user's intended target environment. This feature is expected to enable more precise movement in unpredictable conditions, better obstacle avoidance, and a safer overall environment.

Michael Newcity, ArcBest's Chief Innovation Officer, noted, "Our move from 3D LiDAR sensors to visual AI technology is part of our ongoing progress and another step toward meeting these challenges." He added, "No other robotics company in the logistics space has adopted this advanced technology, and our solution is truly leading the way." $ArcBest(ARCB.US)$
