Revenue Breakdown by Platform
– Data Center was the clear standout. Revenue rose 107% to $6.72 billion and accounted for 58% of total company sales. Segment operating income reached $2.10 billion, equivalent to an operating margin of approximately 31.3%, up from roughly 27.7% in Q1.
– Client revenue increased 23% to $3.06 billion, supported by strong Ryzen processor demand. Gaming revenue declined 31% to $779 million due to lower semi-custom revenue. Embedded revenue rose 19% to $977 million as demand strengthened across multiple end markets.

Three Things to Watch
Margins and cash flow are the next tests
AMD reported a 56.2% non-GAAP gross margin and guided to approximately 56% again for Q3. The lack of sequential margin expansion, despite another projected 13% increase in revenue, was likely one factor behind the cautious market reaction.

Early rack-scale deployments require investments in HBM, advanced packaging, networking, systems integration and customer support. AMD does not disclose separate margins for EPYC CPUs, Instinct accelerators or complete Helios systems, making the effect of the changing product mix difficult to measure.
Free cash flow also declined sequentially to $1.56 billion from $2.57 billion. Capital expenditure increased to $808 million from $389 million as AMD invested more heavily in capacity and infrastructure. The company remains highly cash generative, but investors will watch whether the Helios ramp can produce stronger cash conversion over time.
Data Center growth is entering a stronger phase
AMD's Data Center business now has two major growth engines. EPYC continues to gain momentum in server CPUs, while Instinct deployments are scaling across AI infrastructure customers.
Management expects Data Center revenue to grow at a double-digit sequential rate in Q3. Lisa Su also indicated that the Q4 increase should exceed the Q3 increase as additional server supply becomes available and Helios shipments accelerate.
That outlook suggests AMD's second-half acceleration extends beyond the Q3 revenue guide. The company also expects Data Center sales to more than double in 2027, reinforcing the view that the current ramp is the start of a multiyear cycle.
AMD effectively raised its long-term financial outlook
The most important strategic comment from the call may have been Lisa Su's statement that AMD now expects to outperform the long-term financial framework established at its November 2025 Analyst Day.
That framework targeted company-wide revenue CAGR above 35%, non-GAAP operating margin above 35% and annual non-GAAP EPS exceeding $20 over the following three to five years. It also assumed Data Center revenue CAGR above 60% and Data Center AI revenue CAGR above 80%.

Su said the latest customer commitments and expanding AI opportunity now give AMD confidence that total revenue growth will exceed the greater than 35% target and annual earnings will surpass the $20-per-share goal. She did not provide a new numerical target, so this should be viewed as a directional upward revision rather than a formally quantified guidance increase.
This matters because the original $20 EPS target already represented a major step above current earnings. If AMD can exceed it within the original three-to-five-year period, the earnings power implied by Helios, EPYC and future MI500 systems is materially larger than current quarterly results suggest.
Guidance
$Advanced Micro Devices (AMD.US)$ expects Q3 revenue of approximately $13.0 billion, plus or minus $300 million. The midpoint implies 41% year-over-year growth and a 13% sequential increase, while exceeding the pre-earnings consensus of $12.52 billion by approximately $480 million. Non-GAAP gross margin is expected to remain near 56%.
The guidance confirms that AMD's growth is accelerating into the second half. Management's expectation for stronger Data Center growth in Q4 provides an additional positive signal, although the size and profitability of the Helios contribution remain the key unanswered questions.
Summary
AMD delivered a strong quarter, with record revenue, rapidly expanding Data Center sales and a Q3 outlook comfortably above consensus. The after-hours decline reflects expectations that had risen even faster than the company's already impressive results.
The fundamental AI thesis strengthened after this report. The next rerating will depend on whether AMD can turn its Helios pipeline into visible quarterly revenue while improving gross margins and cash conversion.
