Achieved 2025 YTD 120+%

As of today 19 Sep 2025, I’ve achieved a year-to-date return on investment of 120%, and looking back, this journey has been both humbling and rewarding. I owe most of this success to sticking with a momentum investing strategy. Over time, I’ve focused mainly on stocks from the U.S. and Hong Kong markets, while also keeping a smaller portion of my portfolio in the Singapore market.
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that stock picking really matters. There are always many choices within the same sector, but not all stocks are created equal. Early on, I realized that it’s far better to concentrate on the stronger stock—the one showing resilience and leadership—rather than spreading myself thin across weaker names. When you back the leaders, you’re riding with the market’s momentum instead of fighting against it.
How do I identify these strong stocks? For me, the chart tells the story. I usually look for stocks that are trading within 20 to 30 percent of their recent highs. This shows me they are still holding strength and not too far removed from their peak. Over time, I also started paying close attention to stocks that break out to new all-time highs or 52-week highs. These breakouts often signal fresh momentum and renewed investor confidence. In momentum investing, these are what we call “strong stocks,” and they have been some of my best performers.
At the same time, I’ve made it a rule to avoid bottom fishing. In my experience, trying to pick up stocks just because they’ve fallen to the bottom is rarely rewarding. Weak stocks usually stay weak, and waiting for a turnaround can eat up both time and capital. It’s much better to put money into strength, even if it doesn’t feel like a bargain.
Of course, trading is never just about winning. There are always both wins and losses. I’ve had my fair share of mistakes and losing trades, but the most important lesson I’ve taken from them is this: hold on to your winners longer and cut your losers quickly. When you find a strong stock that keeps climbing, give it the time and space to run, because that’s where real compounding happens. On the flip side, when a trade goes against me, I’ve learned not to hesitate—cutting losses early saves both my capital and my peace of mind.
Along this journey, I’ve also developed a personal principle: whenever I win, I give back. Part of my gains always goes toward donations, to help those who are less fortunate and may never have the same opportunities in investing. It’s my way of spreading love and sharing blessings beyond myself. I often donate to people who need medical support such as Sian Chay. Special Donation Online - Sian Chay Medical Institution
Doing this reminds me to stay humble. The market is unpredictable, and no one can win all the time. Staying grounded, grateful, and disciplined has helped me grow not just as an investor, but also as a person. I believe that when you stay humble, hold on to your winners, cut your losers, and give back when you succeed, you gain more than just financial returns—you gain wisdom, balance, and fulfillment.
