AI Safety Could Drive More Nvidia GPU Demand — Bullish or Overhyped?
by Monta HONG, CFA | Options Strategist
$CrowdStrike (CRWD.US)$ ripped over 13% to a record on Monday, $Palo Alto Networks (PANW.US)$ also surged 13% as capital rotated from chips into security software after Anthropic's AI-safety warning. The options market front-ran the move rather than hedging it.
Calls dominate the tape. Top 5 traded contracts on Monday are both near-dated calls, posting single-day gains of+1,000% to +3,600%. The Put-Call volume ratio sat at just 0.51, meaning roughly two calls traded for every put. The most active weekly strikes (Sep 18, 4 DTE) were all calls: 240C (24.9K), 250C (15.6K), and 230C (12.7K).

The gamma map is bullish. The Gamma Flip sits far below at 183.88, so dealers are long gamma and will buy dips while selling rips. Price closed at 235, above the 230 Call Wall, which flips dealer hedging supportive and tends to drag that wall higher. The 200 Put Wall marks the downside floor if this reverses.

The front-week contract (Sep 18, 4 DTE) carries an elevated IV of 69%, well above the term structure's back months, which reflects a classic post-spike volatility premium that should decay quickly once the move settles. The options market is pricing an expected move of ±$11.8 through Friday, or roughly ±5% around the ~$235 spot, implying a one-standard-deviation range of about $223 to $247. That band sits neatly between the 200 Put Wall and the 250 strike, so the priced-in move keeps $CrowdStrike (CRWD.US)$ above its breached 230 Call Wall but stops short of a fresh breakout.

What cash secured put is
- You sell a put option on a stock you’re willing to own.
- You collect a premium upfront—your maximum profit if the option expires worthless.
- If the stock falls below the strike at expiration, you may be assigned and must buy 100 shares per contract at the strike price (effective cost = strike – premium).
- You keep enough cash to cover the potential purchase, hence “cash-secured.”
Typical uses:
- Income generation: earn regular premium income.
- Buying at a discount: get assigned shares at an effective lower price.
What covered call is
- You already own the stock and sell a call option against it (“covered”).
- You collect a premium upfront as income.
- If the stock stays below the strike, the call expires worthless and you keep both shares and premium.
- If the stock rises above the strike, you sell at that price (capping upside) but still keep the premium.
Typical uses:
- Income generation: earn option premiums while holding shares.
- Exit strategy: sell at a target price while generating extra income.
Strategy Notes
- Focus on higher probabilities for safer trades.
- Monitor implied volatility—higher IV means richer premiums but greater price swings.
