Balanced View: Tesla Q1 2025 Earnings Preview and Future Outlook

Tesla is set to report its first-quarter 2025 earnings on April 22, 2025, after market close (5:30 pm EST or April 23, 5:30 am SGT). You can read my post about Tesla delivery here and I'll not repeat:
I am using two articles to preview the earnings:
1) IG
A consensus of analyst forecasts expect Tesla to report revenue of approximately $21.81 billion and earnings per share (EPS) of $0.43 for Q1 2025. This would be a sequential drop from Q4 2024, when Tesla reported revenue of $27.2 billion and EPS of $0.74.
While Tesla's automotive business faces headwinds, its energy segment represents a potential bright spot. Though it remains the smallest part of Tesla's business, the energy division has been the fastest-growing segment:
•Contributed approximately 10% of total revenue in 2024
•Experienced 67% year-over-year growth in 2024
•Could help offset declining automotive revenue
2) Teslarati

3) My Take:
• According to Wedbush, Tesla is sitting at a “crossroads” as it nears its Q1 2025 Earnings Call on Tuesday. Although the company’s Earnings Calls have been primarily focused on the financials and accomplishments of the past quarter, Tesla is approaching this one differently. Tesla has even said that this Earnings Call will feature a “company update,” and as most believe it will detail plans for future models and production timelines, others have different expectations and beliefs over what could be said.
• Most long term investors will not be bothered by this financial report which is basically focused on the company as a car maker. They are more concerned about Tesla as a Tech company which has future businesses like Robotaxi (Cybercab), Humanoid robotics (Optimus), Energy storage, autonomous vehicles (FSD supervised and unsupervised).
• As for the share price, no technical analysis charts nor indicators can be used to predict accurately. The recent negative market sentiment for Tesla is caused mainly by Trump's tariff and Elon Musk's involvement in politics - DOGE.
• We must be careful about reading information that supports the extreme leftist view of Democrats. They are negatively biased against Tesla and will paint a somber outlook of the company (some may even be fake), the main purpose is to create fear (panic sell). We need to have a balanced view.
• Some analysts said Tesla stock may expect 10% volatility after the earnings. I am not concerned about the short term price fluctuation and focus on long term trends. So far the company's fundamentals remain financially healthy and heading in the right direction.
4) Future Outlook
Despite the ups and downs in its stock price and some risks down the road, Tesla's long-term outlook remains intact. Its financial strength enables it to expand by investing in new technology. In fact, the company is working on some interesting prospects including but not limited to fully self-driving cars, robotaxis and humanoid robots. Read more here:
