The Australian sharemarket reached its highest level in more than five months on Thursday, buoyed by a rally in real estate and technology stocks.
The benchmark $S&P/ASX 200(.XJO.AU$ rose 0.7 per cent, or 53.9 points to 7455.9 amid optimism that the Federal Reserve had raised the cash rate for the last time in the tightening cycle.
The interest rate-sensitive real estate and technology sectors advanced. $Goodman Group(GMG.AU$ shares rallied 2.8 per cent, Westfield parent $Scentre Group(SCG.AU$ climbed 4.4 per cent and $Stockland Corp Ltd(SGP.AU$ surged 3.4 per cent.
$WiseTech Global Ltd(WTC.AU$ shares advanced 1.7 per cent, $Xero Ltd(XRO.AU$ 2.1 per cent and $Nextdc Ltd(NXT.AU$ 2.7 per cent. Software company $Megaport Ltd(MP1.AU$ rose 14.4 per cent after it reached the top end of its earnings guidance.
Investment bank $Macquarie Technology Group Ltd(MAQ.AU$ tumbled 4.4 per cent following reports that its profit took a hit.
Iron ore giant $Fortescue Ltd(FMG.AU$ lost 3.4 per cent even as it beat analysts' expectations and delivered at the top end of its target for the year to June 30.
$BHP Group Ltd(BHP.AU$ finished down 1.5 per cent.
