Looking back 3 years ago, TSMC's main business came from smartphones 📱 and HPC, and the remaining 4 months accounted for 20%. What are the biggest changes in TSMC over the past 3 years?
By 2023Q2, the HPC business surpassed smartphones by 44%. TSMC defines the HPC field as including CPUs, GPUs, and AI accelerators, and expects double-digit growth over the next 3 to 5 years. Among the remaining four smaller businesses, IoT remains the same as it was 3 years ago, while the fastest growing automotive business is the automotive business, which has doubled its performance in 3 years. Mainly because EVs are entering a period of explosion, demand for chips continues to explode.
We expect the HPC business to surpass the 50% mark in the next 3 years, and the automotive business, which is another growth engine, is expected to surpass 10%. The smartphone business, on the other hand, is likely to drop to 30%. Malaysian tech stocks have been lagging behind, and it is hoped to see significant growth in the next 6-12 months.
