$Tesla(TSLA.US)$ Malaysia kicked off car sales on July 7, 2023, with Model Y pre-booking at the starting price of 199,000 ringgit ($44,000). It plans to hold an official unveiling event in Kuala Lumpur on July 20, 2023.

Tesla will establish a Head Office, Tesla Experience & Services Centers, and Supercharger network, simultaneously creating skilled & better-paying jobs for Malaysians,”tweeted Malaysia's MITI Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz earlier this year.
Tesla Malaysia is expected to create numerous job opportunities for residents. Recently, the company organized a Walk-in Recruitment Day event in Cyberjaya where they sought to fill five key roles, including Sales Advisor/Inside Sales Advisor, Enterprise Sales Advisor, Delivery Advisor, Customer Support Specialist, and Service Advisor.
Last Friday, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim held a call with Elon Musk to discuss the latter's investment plans in Malaysia. A report from Reuters stated that Anwar welcomed Tesla's interest in Malaysia and appreciated Elon Musk's willingness to explore investment opportunities in the country.
What were the highlights of this conversation?
About EVs: Earlier this year, Malaysia granted approval for Tesla to import battery-run electric vehicles into the country. As part of their plans, Tesla intends to establish an office, showrooms, and service centers in Malaysia. Additionally, they aim to develop a charging station network to support their EVs.
About Starlink: Anwar and Musk also touched upon the topic of Starlink, a satellite communication service launched by SpaceX, Musk's company. Starlink aims to provide global broadband coverage through a constellation of satellites, which can contribute to faster and more widespread internet access, especially in rural areas.
The conversation indicates Malaysia's interest in exploring potential collaborations and partnerships in satellite communications and it highlights Musk's interest in expanding Starlink's presence in Southeast Asia. Furthermore, the commencement of Tesla's operations in Malaysia aligns with the company's global expansion strategy.
