Meta Shares AI Chatbot Tech with Businesses Through Microsoft
$Meta Platforms(META.US$ is releasing its AI language model, Llama 2, for commercial use via partnerships with large cloud providers such as Microsoft. This decision is not to monetize the model directly but rather to invite external developers to utilize and enhance it.
By making this AI technology more accessible, Meta solidifies its position as a significant contributor to the AI landscape. They have heavily invested in AI infrastructure, with Zuckerberg prioritizing the integration of AI advancements into Meta's products and algorithms.
Meta bore the costs of training the models, while cloud providers like Microsoft, Amazon, and Hugging Face provide the hosting and computing power to run them. Although Meta hasn't commented on any charges Microsoft may impose for access to Llama 2, Amazon has confirmed that it will only charge customers for the usage of SageMaker, its machine learning toolkit.
The commercial introduction of Llama 2 is the first project from Meta's newly formed generative AI group. The team subjected the new model to rigorous safety testing before its release. This AI model is not the same as the one used in Meta's products.
AI language models, such as Llama 2, drive text-based chatbots and can be used for more than just answering queries. These models undergo training with massive amounts of information, usually sourced from the internet, to perfect their response generation.
Meta plans to extend Llama 2 access to academic researchers and hopes that open sourcing its AI infrastructure and work will spur progress across the industry.
