Rediscover the Singapore market, unleash your trading potential

Rediscover the Singapore market, unleash your trading potential
The 2023 NDP is around the corner. The NDP themes reflect the different stages of Singapore's development over the years. Looking back at these themes, we can gain a deeper understanding of the country’s progress.
From 2001 to 2007, the NDP themes focused on development and progress, such as "City of Possibilities". From 2008 to 2019, the themes emphasized Singaporean spirit, unity, and cooperation, with slogans like "Building Our Singapore of Tomorrow".
From 2020 to 2022, resilience and moving forward became critical social themes due to the global pandemic's impact.
This year, as the pandemic subsides, unity and development take center stage in the National Day theme, "Onwards As One".
Reviewing National Day themes can help us reveal overlooked aspects of our social history. Similarly, rediscovering the local brands around us and reflecting on how we embarked on our investment journey can provide us with new insights and reflections.

  • Shuseido : The primary objective for me to invest in SG stocks is to generate passive income stream aka Dividends. I am mainly focus on banking stocks, the 3 local banks which I have the most faith in them. I am not into REITs for now as I am still doing research to know it better.

  • 杰曼 : slow and steady is the theme, what's do you expect other than dividends? there are gems who did well in particular earnings results, but won't stay for long. the larket is lack of tech and innovation industry.

  • Wonder : SG stocks are generally not ideal to hold long term in my opinion, saved for the 3 local banking stocks (which constitutes like 40% of STI) n selective reits. Main objective to invest in said SG stocks is to collect dividends n to diversify risks (no currency risk as well).

As a Singaporean, I take pride in the recent success of $SINGAPORE AIRLINES (SINGF.US)$ , our national flag carrier. The company has shown resilience in the face of a global pandemic and has proven its mettle by managing to recover effectively and efficiently.

Singapore Airlines turned a significant loss into a S$2.16 billion profit in FY2022/2023, showcasing the robust recovery in air travel demand. Despite rising costs, the company utilized strong revenues and capacity growth, coupled with record-high load factors, to achieve this success.

Although the cargo business faced challenges, Singapore Airlines still marked its most profitable year to date. This achievement was driven by capacity expansion and a decrease in costs. As a Singaporean, I find their growth potential, especially in international and China-focused routes, commendable.

In the upcoming year, Singapore Airlines aims to enhance its recovery rate to 83% in the first half, demonstrating its adaptability amidst a rapidly evolving environment. This resilience, despite the pressures in the aviation industry, fills me with pride.

Singapore Airlines' strong performance, coupled with effective cost management, is a beacon of our nation's resilience and commitment to excellence. Reflecting our nation's strength and dynamism, the success of the airline stands as a testament to the strategic foresight, hard work, and dedication of its leadership and staff.
