Inside Apple's VisionPro: A Dive into the Features and Supply Chain Behind the Device
On Monday, $Apple(AAPL.US$'s shares reached a new all-time high of $184.95, exceeding the previous record of $182.94 set on January 2022. After revealing its first augmented reality headset price tag, the Apple Vision Pro, the company's shares unexpectedly declined rather than increasing as many had expected.
Back in 2017, Apple released ARkit, which was considered a first step into the headset device market, where $Meta Platforms(META.US$ is often seen as the earliest entrant.

From a product perspective, the resolution of Apple's newly released headset is higher than all existing products from Meta and $Sony(SONY.US$. Although details have not been officially announced yet, the field of view for VisionPro is predicted to be the largest among existing products, with relatively lightweight and comprehensive interactions. Additionally, Apple's headset uses chips developed in-house, whereas Sony and Meta use chips from MediaTek and Qualcomm, respectively.
From the software supply chain aspect, $Unity Software(U.US$ shares soared Monday as Apple announced partnership to bring apps to VisionPro.
Regarding the hardware supply chain, according to Wellsenn XR, the highest BOM (bill of material) cost proportion in Apple's headset is the inner display Micro-OLED provided by $Sony(SONY.US$. The M2 chip developed in-house also accounts for a relatively high proportion of the cost.

71577251 : The pricing is extremely high for this VR headset. no way I personally would/could justify buying 1 of these. Just don't see it being a viable price point. I believe they will be first to market and not the eventual leader in this space ....

manonthm0on84 : I payed $4000 for a 64 inch smart TV which came with a remote I don't understand and I barely get to use it because I'm never home. I'd pay that price for a cinema/computer/game consol/camera, I can fit in my backpack. I think it's perfectly reasonable considering it only cost $1k more than my phone, though I'd be happier if it were cheaper.
