Announcing number of pre-sale orders in China is a marketing ploy for many car companies.
This report was made in August 2022 which NIO announced 200,000 pre-orders. Note that back then NIO monthly sale was only 9,000 to 10,000 on average and we now knew that the actual monthly sales was much lesser. Hence the pre-orders sales is overly exaggerated. In China, announcing the number of pre-sale orders has become a marketing ploy for many car companies.
Recently, someone posted an article about Nio 30,000 pre-orders in 3 days claim surpassing Tesla model Y quartly sale is also nothing but a marketing ploy. We should not accept such figure as fact and avoid being misled. For your information, Tesla Q1 2023 sales in China is 137,429 (ranked 2nd) and Nio is 31,041 (ranked 7th).

Quote:
The figure is a projection by NIO's sales staff based on the number of sales outlets the company has in China and the average number of pre-orders each person receives, the report said.
It's worth noting that NIO has never announced the number of orders for its models. In China, announcing the number of pre-sale orders has become a marketing ploy for many car companies.
