US debt
As the deadline approached, the US government debt ceiling negotiations seemed to be progressing again. The stock market reacted positively. The Dow Jones index closed on Friday and rose 328 points.
At one point, the Dow drew nearly 400 points higher. US Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo (Wally Adeyemo) said in an interview with the US Cable News Network (CNN) that negotiators are close to reaching a debt limit agreement and that debt default can be avoided in a timely manner, adding that a default is unacceptable.
The Dow opened 30 points higher, and the increase expanded to a maximum of 397 points, to a high of 33,162 points; the index once rose 1.48%, and the NASDAQ once rose 2.39%, rising to a high level since April last year.
