They could, but they won’t. My opinion (I can be wrong) is that they may build a gigafactory for the “model 2” - robotaxi like the one in Mexico but, with a lower cost of labour and land, they should be able to sell it for about 20K. They may build it in India before than China to limit the political risk. Now China represents at least 50% of Tesla’s production: not healthy. Of course India needs even cheaper cars, but that’s not Tesla’s segment (and will never be due to safety and average margins). Though, they could partner (51% ?) with a local company to make a 12-15K car or even create a sub-brand. In that case they should adopt a one-piece cast for the base and a polymer-carbon reinforced over-structure, already painted in the mass. Just speculation…
