AU Evening Wrap: ASX Falls 0.1%, Led by Losses in Financials Stocks

The $S&P/ASX 200(.XJO.AU)$ fell 0.1 per cent, down 4.3 points to 7193.1 at market close, weighed down by bank stocks as a sell-off in US regional banks impact consumer sentiment.

$National Australia Bank Ltd(NAB.AU)$ shares fell 6.4 per cent even as the major bank reported 17 per cent increase in its cash earnings. $CommBank(CBA.AU)$ stocks dropped 2.6 per cent. $Westpac Banking Corp(WBC.AU)$ shares fell 4.1 per cent. $ANZ Group Holdings Ltd(ANZ.AU)$ declined 2.4 per cent.

$Super Retail Group Ltd(SUL.AU)$ shares fell 7.1 per cent and was the worst performing stock of the day. It comes as the company said its cost of doing business will rise in the second half.

The materials sector was in the green. $Evolution Mining Ltd(EVN.AU)$ shares surged 7.2 per cent and was the best performing stock of the day. $BHP Group Ltd(BHP.AU)$ shares rose 1.6 per cent. $Fortescue Ltd(FMG.AU)$ rose 1.5 per cent. $Rio Tinto Ltd(RIO.AU)$ shares added 1.3 per cent.
