Market sentiments and technical analysis are important factors to be successful in trading. Together, they offer valuable insights into market trends and enable traders to make informed and timely decisions. However, the relationship between these two is always complex and dynamic. It is not a rare phenomenon that the outcome of technical analysis contradicts market sentiments.
In our recent discussion How would you trade when market sentiments conflict with technical analysis, we asked mooers how they would navigate this challenging scenario. We are glad to receive so many inspiring responses. The poll revealed that over two-thirds of our mooers would prioritize market sentiments over technical analysis.
It is also noteworthy that many mooers mentioned combining market sentiments and technical analysis actually helped them understand the market and make sound and timely decisions. Meanwhile, we also found lots of practical views. By learning from each other, we can broaden our understanding of the market and potentially improve our decision-making, with the hopes of maximizing profits and minimizing risks.

Seize the trend by following market sentiments
@bullrider_21: There are various factors that influence stock sentiment, which include news and social media. These factors help influence stock sentiment as they impact market volatility, trading volume and earnings. Stock sentiment alone cannot always predict changes in prices, but a better understanding can be gained when combined with TA.
When does technical analysis work best?
@Samooer: AMD is a cyclical company filled with a variety of TAs. TA pays off in terms of identifying entry points. While the trade is ongoing, it is especially important to keep up to date of the news that could waver market fundamentals. In conclusion, both TA and market sentiments are equally important. But if I have to choose between the two, I'll stick closely with TA specifically on *Stocks with strong fundamentals*.
@VincentC: Actually, both could be true in a sense, just which will come first.. For example, positive news could drive prices up for a short instance and then once the hibe dies down, then it starts to follow the technicals. For me I would rather follow technicals as first priority as news tend to be very short lived.
