Tesla Q1 2023 Globally BEV sales were higher than BYD

The US EV maker delivered 422,875 units worldwide in the first quarter, up 36.39 percent from 310,048 units a year earlier and up 4.34 percent from 405,278 in the fourth quarter, according to its announcement on April 2.
Tesla delivered more BEVs than BYD in the first quarter, but the latter's combined sales of PHEVs and BEVs were larger.
In the first quarter, BYD's NEV sales, including PHEVs and BEVs, were 552,076 units, up 92.81 percent year-on-year but down 19.22 percent from the fourth quarter of last year, according to data released yesterday.
BYD's passenger BEVs sold 264,647 units in the first quarter, up 84.78 percent year-on-year but down 19.56 percent from the fourth quarter.

TeslaSmurf GuruGuruGulu: A Tesla is more expensive than an average BYD because it is considered a luxury car. It means that means people is willing to pay more to have a Tesla than a BYD, but if you compare the prices of similar models there is no gigantic difference, for example the BYD HAN and the Tesla Model 3. It’s just that Tesla doesn’t sell small cars, YET. By the end of 2024 they will start producing a new compact car in Mexico and later in China. The BIG difference is that customers pay more and at the same time Tesla is more efficient at building cars (=much higher margin and profit).
TeslaSmurf GuruGuruGulu: A BYD HAN in China costs between 30K and 40K while the Model 3 is around 15% more expensive. 15%, not 8X as you wrote
